Destroying the tapes...

Couldn't they just add those blurry things to the interrogators' faces?

CIA says it made, destroyed interrogation tapes

Thu Dec 6, 2007 9:07pm EST

By Randall Mikkelsen

WASHINGTON, Dec 6 (Reuters) - The CIA acknowledged making videotapes to document interrogations of terrorism suspects that used techniques critics have denounced as torture, and said on Thursday it had destroyed the recordings.

Central Intelligence Agency Director Michael Hayden told employees in a letter that the videotapes were made in 2002 as part of a secret detention and interrogation program that began with the arrest of suspected al Qaeda lieutenant Abu Zubaydah.

The taping was discontinued later that year and the tapes were destroyed in 2005, Hayden said.

"The tapes posed a serious security risk. Were they ever to leak, they would permit identification of your CIA colleagues who had served in the program, exposing them and their families to retaliation from al Qaeda and its sympathizers," Hayden said in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by Reuters.

He said he was discussing the program because of pending news reports on it. The New York Times published a story on the tapes on its Web site on Thursday.

The disclosure follows a separate instance last month involving a belated CIA acknowledgment that it possessed interrogation tapes sought in the trial of accused Sept. 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui.

Democrats in both the Senate and House of Representatives called for congressional investigations.

Born in 1976 in the city of Jerusalem, West Bank, Rami left his hometown of Ramallah soon after graduating from high school in 1996 and moved to the United States in pursuit of his childhood dream to one day become a fashion designer. Growing up as the son of an eclectic and fashionable mother, Rami was often commissioned by the local town socialites to design their ensembles. IIn 1997, Rami began attending courses in design at Brooks College in California. After several months in the program, he decided to choose a different route and challenge himself on his own. While keeping in the circle of fashion, Rami worked in retail for several years after his departure from design school. After a stint of traveling to Europe as a buyer, Kashou bit the bullet and purchased two sewing machines. He vigorously studied pattern making from the local vintage boutiques. I'm back...

...to blogging! It has been a while since I have posted something new...and now is the perfect time to do so.

I am starting a new chapter in my life, starting January 8, 2008. I will be moving to Doha, Qatar for a wonderful opportunity. I will be working in the field I adore and can't get enough of. I will be doing my dream job, working in journalism.

It took a while to get to this goal i have been working so hard for, but it is finally here.

Of course, this new chapter in my life is probably the most exciting one, filled with so many emotions. I am excited, scared, nervous, worried, and looking forward all at the same time! It is hard to fully describe the feelings I am currently dealing with. But there is one thing I am very sure of...I am looking forward to this adventure! So come along with me on my journey to my dream job...there is a lot I will be writing about!

PS I know, I have to redesign my blog.

PSS If you have a MySpace or FACEBOOK account let me know...I'm on both of them too!

Get your tissues out...

I was in the mood for something funny…something to crack me up…have me laugh so hard that watching a movie would end up being an ab workout! I was in the mood for Will Ferrell’s new movie, Blades of Glory! But…it started too late in the evening as my cousins and I were looking for a movie to watch…we wanted to see something now…right away.

Instead of that ab workout, last night I experienced more of a “tear jerker.” I know…everyone says “tear jerker” but I can’t find another something else to use instead of “tear jerker.”

Anyhow, last night, my cousins and I had the privilege of enjoying a movie with an immense message: Don’t freak out at one in your family due to remodeling the kitchen, because it may be the last words they hear from you!

Okay, well that may not be the “true” message of the movie…but, these words are what I took away with me after watching Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle in Mike Binder’s fabulous movie, Reign Over Me.

I say it here, and I say it now! Adam Sandler will be nominated for an Oscar…and he will win it for his awesome performance in this movie. To say he displayed his talent’s as a whole actor is an understatement. Watching this movie, you forget Sandler’s past comedic and sometimes foolish characters. Instead, Sandler is able to show the audience that he is a serious actor that can take a character written for a movie and bring it to real life.

I won’t go into the plot, because it might stop some from wanting to watch it…instead, just get yourself in the theater, get your box of tissues ready, and let those tears come out!

Music you can watch…

If I was given the choice to pick between the two, I always say I would take Arabic music, over American…hands down. There is nothing like listening to Arabic music. The words are beautiful, the melodies are amazingly wonderful, and I can never get bored of it.

BUT, and this is a big BUT…I enjoy WATCHING American music so much more. I truly believe only in America can one take music and make it into a show, a performance, a feast for the eyes. A pure example of this was the 49th Annual Grammy Awards last Sunday night. (I wrote this a while ago and just decided to post it)

Americans know how to put on a show. They know how to put a concert together that is not only pleasing to the ears, but also pleasing to the eyes.

The thing that frustrates me the most about Arabic music are the concerts. They are fun to attend to because of course you hear the music live and you get to shake your hips…but watching these concerts on TV are, well…kind of disappointing. The stages are lame, the lighting is old school, and the singers are only singers, not performers. Where is the show? Where is the attraction?

I know what some of you might be saying right now, but at the end of the day, I would rather go to Celine Dion’s Show in Las Vegas, or Justin Timberlake’s concert coming up this summer rather than attend Nancy Ajram’s concert or Wael Kfoury’s concert.

There is an exception to this of course…amazing singers that one can really respect, like Kazem Elsaher…I would never mind seeing him concert.

I just wish the Arab music industry could be a little more creative when it comes to the concerts it produces…

And there goes my rant for the day…By the way, as you can see, I attached a short clip of Shakira's Performance at the 49th Grammy Awards...She being of Lebanese background, proves that yes, Arabs can sing, as well as perform...

Dealings with the ENEMY...

This is a must read article to truly understand what our government is practicing in the "WAR on TERRORISM." This article is just another example of how the government picks and chooses, when convenient, who the enemy is, and in the long run, creating more enemies as we speak...a sad truth...CHECK IT OUT:

"Is the Administration’s new policy benefiting our enemies in the war on terrorism?"
